Bell-Jeff 21, Burbank 21--Quarterback Rod Chapman of Bell-Jeff ran three yards for a touchdown and Mike Szekely kicked the tying point-after with 3:52 left at Burroughs High.
Chapman’s score came two plays after defensive lineman Irwin Bionsin blocked Adam Saldana’s punt, giving Bell-Jeff (0-1-1) the ball at the Burbank four-yard line.
Burbank (1-0-1) had taken the lead on Nelson Randin’s 45-yard touchdown run with 9:14 to play.
Burbank outgained Bell-Jeff, 338-149, but committed three turnovers.
Quarterback Jeremy Sparks of Burbank completed 10 of 18 passes for 107 yards and threw two interceptions. He also gained 60 yards in 12 carries, including a second-quarter, nine-yard touchdown run.
Randin rushed for a game-high 114 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries.
