La Habra : Redevelopment Plan Is Subject of Hearing

The La Habra Redevelopment Agency will have a public hearing Sept. 19 on its five-year plan to spend $84 million to improve parks, widen streets and create new parking spaces downtown.

The Resource Allocation Plan envisions eight major projects, and it is subject to regular reviews.

Already under way are the expansion of the county library, improvements to Portola Park, the widening of La Habra Boulevard and the creation of new parking spaces in the downtown area.

The most ambitious plans involve more than 115 acres scattered throughout the city. The $52-million project, authorized last July, involves commercial and industrial developments.

One major feature is the demolition, to begin next year, of most of the Fashion Square Shopping Center at the northeast corner of Beach Boulevard and Imperial Highway.

Also included is a plan to replace the drive-in theater at the southeast corner of Imperial Highway and Idaho Street with a 200,000-square-foot retail center.
