Long Beach : Many Schools to Begin New Term With Short Day

Summer is over, at least for children.

Schools in the Long Beach Unified School District will open next Wednesday.

Students at elementary and junior high schools will be dismissed early in the afternoon on the first day to allow school staff to register late arrivals and make class adjustments, according to district officials. High school students will have a regular day--7:58 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

Holidays this academic year will fall on: Veterans Day, Nov. 11; Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 and 24; Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 15; Lincoln Day, Feb. 16; President’s Day, Feb. 19, and Memorial Day, May 28. In addition, children get a winter vacation from Dec. 18 to Jan. 1 and a spring break from April 16 to 20.
