P.M. BRIEFING : Slow Growth Continues, Fed Says

WASHINGTON — The nation’s economy continues to grow slowly, the Federal Reserve Board said today in its “beige book” on economic conditions.
The Fed, which prepared the report for its Aug. 22 meeting of economic policy-makers, said manufacturing is growing slowly, car sales are weak and merchandise sales are soft.
The report appeared consistent with other recent government indicators.
