TOKYO — Oldrich Valek and Rostislav Vlach scored two goals apiece, leading Czechoslovakia’s national ice hockey team to a 7-1 victory over its Japanese counterpart today in the opening match of a three-nation double round-robin tournament.
Czechoslovakia meets the 1989 world champion Soviet team on Wednesday, the second day of the six-day “ ’89 Japan Cup Super Ice Hockey.” Czechoslovakia placed third, behind Canada, in the world championships in Stockholm this month.
