High School Roundup : Monte Vista Advances in Tennis

Monte Vista’s Jeff Miyamoto defeated Patrick Henry’s Erwin Guzman, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles as Monte Vista beat Patrick Henry, 6.25-4.75, Monday in the first round of the Southern Section 3-A team tennis playoffs.
Monte Vista (14-3) will play second-seeded Mt. Carmel (16-3) today in the quarterfinals.
In other 3-A action:
El Capitan 6.25, Bonita Vista 4.75--El Capitan (13-5) will play top-seeded Torrey Pines (14-2) today.
Orange Glen 9, Hilltop 2--Mike Deguzman of Hilltop defeated Chin Lin of Orange Glen, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, but Orange Glen’s No. 1 doubles team of Scott Effinger and Jay Patterson won, 6-3, 7-5. Orange Glen (14-7) will play at fourth-seeded Mira Mesa (17-1) today.
Coronado 11, Point Loma 0--John Wadleigh defated Rhett Dadej, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Brandon Halm beat Eric Jew, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Coronado’s No. 1 doubles team of Orin Riddell and Nathan Schaedler beat Guillermo Swain and Zack Tyson, 6-3, 6-2. Coronado (18-4) faces third-seeded Poway (17-2) today in the quarterfinals.
In first-round 2-A action:
University City 11, Army-Navy 0--Joe Barbarie of University City defeated Roger Corona of Army-Navy, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. University City’s No. 1 doubles team of Yuichi Tamano and Dan Watson defeated Ted Ulos and Ed Colwell, 6-0, 6-2. University City (16-4) faces third-seeded St. Augustine (15-3) today.
Bishop 11, La Jolla County Day 0--Bishop (6-9) will travel to top-seeded La Jolla (19-0) today.
Rancho Buena Vista 5.75, Crawford 5.25--Ranco Buena Vista travels to second-seeded Valhalla today.
Vincent Memorial 5.75, San Pasqual 5.25--Vincent Memorial of Calexico (11-3) faces fourth-seeded University (15-4) today.
