Inflation

In the front-page article by Art Pine, “Jobless Hike Confirms Economy Is Cooling Off” (May 6) White House press secretary Marlin Fitzwater is quoted saying that the economy “continues to grow with low inflation.”
When was the last time Fitzwater has been to a supermarket? Prices have been rising astronomically for all kinds of foods. For instance tomatoes jumped from 89 cents to $1.39 a pound, bread from $1.59 to $1.99--all within 3-5 days. To speak of “low inflation” is an outright lie!
