IN BRIEF : U.S. Sweeps Men’s Diving Meet

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Matt Scoggin of Great Falls, Va., won the 10-meter platform competition in the final of the Alamo Challenge diving meet to give the United States men a sweep of China and the Soviet Union.
Scoggin, the U.S. platform diving champion, produced a spectacular finish Sunday in his 10-dive series to beat the Soviets’ Vladimir Timoshinin and Olympic silver medalist Xiong Ni of China. Scoggin joined Mark Lenzi of Fredericksburg, Va., who won the one-meter springboard, and Kent Ferguson of Boca Raton, Fla., three-meter springboard, to provide the men’s sweep.
On the women’s side, Chinese 17-year-old Olympic gold medalist Gao Min added the three-meter springboard title Sunday to the one-meter event she won Friday.
China won the overall team title with 50.5 points, followed by the United States with 44 and Soviet Union with 31.5.
