Mira Costa Spikers to Meet Newport Harbor in Playoffs

Top-seeded Mira Costa High (20-0) will meet Newport Harbor (12-5) in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section 4-A volleyball playoffs at 7:30 tonight at Corona del Mar High in Newport Beach.
The Mustangs advanced with a 15-9, 4-15, 15-5, 15-5 victory at Santa Barbara on Tuesday night. Junior outside hitter David Swatik led Mira Costa with 15 kills and middle blockers Zach Small (eight kills, six digs) and Pat Ivie (nine kills, nine blocks) also played big matches.
Newport Harbor, the third-place team from the Seaview League, has been somewhat of a surprise. The Sailors had to win a wild-card match to reach the playoffs and upset fourth-seeded Huntington Beach in the first round. They defeated Woodbridge of Irvine, 15-13, 12-15, 9-15, 15-8, 15-12, Tuesday.
In the 2-A Division, St. Bernard (16-6) meets Windward of Mar Vista (13-7) in a semifinal match at 7:30 tonight at El Segundo High. The Vikings upset top-seeded Canyon of Canyon Country, 15-9, 16-14, 15-13, Tuesday night.
