Mob boss Nicodemo (Little Nicky) Scarfo was sentenced to a maximum 55 years in federal prison and fined $500,000 in a racketeering conspiracy that included 13 murders and attempted killings. He was described by the government as “a remorseless and profoundly evil man.” Scarfo, 59, and 16 other members of his Philadelphia-southern New Jersey Mafia gang were convicted last November. The government said Scarfo ran the mob from his home in Atlantic City, N.J., and was “the leader of one of the most important and powerful” of 24 Mafia families in the country.
