New Media Venture: Warner Communications will gain a majority interest in the 10 legal and business publications of the American Lawyer Newspaper Group under a definitive joint venture agreement announced by Warner and American Lawyer’s current owner, Associated Newspapers. Terms weren’t disclosed for the deal, which forms a new venture to be called American Lawyer Media L.P. Steven Brill, founder and editor-in-chief of the American Lawyer legal magazine, will be president and chief executive of the joint venture. Warner Chairman Steven J. Ross said the owners will “explore opportunities to further strengthen their franchise.”
