Notified that baseball’s investigation of Pete Rose was nearly over, the Cincinnati Reds said they had no backup plans for the possibility of losing their manager.
“We don’t feel any contingency plans are needed,” General Manager Murray Cook said.
A report on allegations of Rose’s gambling will be submitted to Commissioner Bart Giamatti next week, baseball spokesman Rich Levin said. Giamatti will then deliberate the fate of Rose, accused by a former friend’s lawyer of betting on baseball.
