Bernardi Endorsed by New Equestrian Group

Members of a new group, Equestrians for Bernardi, gathered Thursday at the Hansen Dam stables to announce their support for incumbent Los Angeles City Councilman Ernani Bernardi in the June 6 runoff election.
The horse owners and riders praised Bernardi for helping keep the stables open. In 1987, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which owns the Lake View Terrace land on which the stables stand, recommended tearing them down. Until Bernardi and community members intervened, the city Department of Recreation and Parks, which leases the land, planned to follow that recommendation.
“Ernie has shown a true understanding of equestrian problems and needs for his district,” said Lewis Snow, a Lake View Terrace resident and spokesman for the equestrian group.
Bernardi is facing challenger Lyle Hall, a city fire captain, in the election.
