The Master’s Locked Out of Playoffs

After a strong performance in a one-point loss to powerful Grand Canyon College last Friday, The Master’s basketball Coach Mel Hankinson figured his team was a lock for a spot in the NAIA District 3 playoffs. Sunday, Hankinson returned from a recruiting trip to Kansas to find the lock had broken and his team’s season was over.
Tournament entries for the seven-team field were chosen partly on the basis of two complicated scoring systems--the Dunkle and Semper systems--combined with a vote of 13 coaches. Master’s (15-14, 5-9 in District 3 play) finished eighth in the final tabulation.
