Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd became the first Boston Red Sox player to openly criticize teammate Wade Boggs for remarks made by Boggs’ former mistress, Margo Adams, in an interview with Penthouse magazine.
Adams has filed a $12-million suit against Boggs, and charges in the magazine interview that Boggs made critical remarks about a number of players. Boyd’s name was not mentioned in the first part of a two-part series.
“Seems like he should be a little different,” Boyd said of Boggs. “Seems like it doesn’t bother the young man. They were talking about banning me out of baseball (in 1986) because I’ve got a temper. I’ve got to go to a psychiatrist because I got mad. Now here’s a guy who says he’s a sex fiend. Now who needs the psychiatrist?”
