NICOSIA, Cyprus — Romania and Iran called for Middle East peace and a Gulf War settlement Saturday at the end of a visit to Bucharest by Iranian President Ali Khamenei.
Iran’s IRNA news agency said Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu accepted an invitation to visit Tehran at an unspecified date.
A joint communique called for closer ties in energy and other economic fields and for observance of the U.N. Security Council’s Persian Gulf war cease-fire resolution, IRNA said.
The communique also called for a withdrawal of foreign forces from the Persian Gulf, where warships of several Western nations and the Soviet Union are stationed, and for a solution to the Middle East conflict.
