WORLD : Underwear Model Seized at Shrine

BANGKOK, Thailand — An American photographer and an American model who posed in her underwear while sitting on a Buddha statue were arrested on charges of desecrating the statue, police said today.
Sante Maria D’Razzio, 33, of New Jersey and Kara Ruth Young, 23, of California were arrested after the photo session inside Chung Len Buddhist temple in the southern island resort of Phuket, police Lt. Amnuey Kraiwuttianant said. D’Razzio was photographing Young for the French edition of Vogue magazine when worshipers at the temple complained to police.
The pair said they did not know they were breaking the law, Amnuey said. Each could face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison if convicted. They were released on $2,000 bail apiece.
