Nordstrom Profits Rise to $47.5 Million

SEATTLE — Nordstrom, the chain of upscale department stores, today reported fourth-quarter profits of $47.5 million, or 58 cents per share, on sales of $765.1 million.
In last year’s fourth quarter, the Seattle-based chain earned $33.3 million, or 40 cents per share, on sales of $601.2 million. For the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 1989, Nordstrom made $123.3 million, or $1.51 per share, on sales of $2.3 billion. In the previous fiscal year, it earned $92.7 million, or $1.13 per share, on sales of $1.9 billion.
