Prep Basketball Playoffs

In Southern Section playoff action:

St. Monica 69, Mater Dei 66--For the first time since 1982, Mater Dei, which had won four consecutive Southern Section titles, will not be in a title game.

With 2:05 left and Mater Dei (25-3) leading the 5-AA Division quarterfinal game, 61-57, at Saddleback College, St. Monica’s Donovan Green made a three-point shot just as teammate Cleveland Jackson was fouled by Derrick Stone. Jackson made both free throws to give St. Monica (22-5) the lead for good, 62-61.
