A drug suspect led officers from three police departments in a chase through parking lots and over road dividers Wednesday afternoon before his car collided with a police squad car and he fled on foot, Fountain Valley Lt. Mike Hanrahan said.
The suspect, whose name was not available Wednesday night, was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine after police found a kilo of cocaine in his car, Hanrahan said.
The chase began after Fountain Valley detectives, who had the suspect under surveillance, requested that a marked police unit stop him. The pursuit started at Adams Street and Harbor Boulevard in Fountain Valley and ended in the parking lot of the Edwards Cinema on Mesa Verde Drive in Costa Mesa.
A Fountain Valley detective caught the suspect a short distance away, Hanrahan said. Costa Mesa police and Orange County sheriff’s deputies helped in the chase.
