Kings Acquire Veteran Goalie Hrudey From N.Y. Islanders

The Kings have acquired veteran goaltender Kelly Hrudey from the New York Islanders in exchange for defenseman Wayne McBean, goalie Mark Fitzpatrick and future considerations.
Hrudey, 28, was the Islanders’ regular goalie, appearing in 50 of the team’s 60 games this season and posting an 18-24-3 record with a 3.92 goals-against average. Drafted in 1980, Hrudey came up to the NHL in 1984 and in 241 games with the Islanders had a record of 106-90-26 with a 3.47 goals-against average and six shutouts.
In exchange, the Islanders received a pair of 20-year-old players. McBean, the fourth pick overall in the 1987 amateur draft, had five assists in 33 games with the Kings this season. Fitzpatrick, the 27th selection in the same draft, was 6-7-3 with a 4.01 goals against average in 17 games with Los Angeles. Both also played in the AHL this season with New Haven.
In making the announcement this morning in Inglewood, Kings Gen. Mgr. Rogatien Vachon said that “the Kings have their best shot ever at competing for the Stanley Cup this season and Kelly Hrudey is a very important piece in completing that puzzle.
which begins Friday in Edmonton.
