A judge gave attendants and nurses at state-run General Hospital in Cranston, R.I., 24 hours to end a walkout that had National Guardsmen caring for patients. Superior Court Judge Antonio S. Almeida granted the state’s request for a back-to-work order, citing a risk of “irreparable harm” to patients. Gov. Edward DiPrete called out the Guard on Sunday after a walkout by members of Local 1350 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees over staffing levels.
