Tony Granato and Tomas Sandstrom each scored two goals as the New York Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils, 7-4, Monday afternoon at Madison Square Garden to take over first place in the Patrick Division.
The Rangers, which began the day tied for second, lead Pittsburgh by one point.
Ulf Dahlen’s tiebreaker at 11:48 of the second period gave the Rangers a 4-3 lead, and the Rangers clinched the game with goals by Darren Turcotte in the second period and Jason Lafreniere and Granato in the third.
Granato’s two goals give him 34 to set a club rookie record.
Calgary 6, Washington 2--Hakan Loob had a goal and two assists as the Flames defeated the Capitals in Calgary, Canada.
Larry Murphy and Geoff Courtnall were the only Capitals to beat Flame goaltender Rick Wamsley, both in the third period after Calgary had gained a 6-0 lead.
