Profit in 4th Quarter Drops 20% for Zenith National Insurance

Zenith National Insurance Co., a Woodland Hills insurance company specializing in workers’ compensation coverage, said its profit in the fourth quarter that ended Dec. 31 fell 20% to $9.2 million.
Zenith’s revenue in the period rose 8% to $135.3 million. The company’s quarterly results included a $974,000 loss on investments, compared to a gain of $358,000 a year earlier.
For the year, the company’s profit fell 4% to $46.3 million. Revenue rose 8% to $508.7 million. Zenith’s gains on investments fell to $836,000 in the year from $5 million a year earlier.
