New York’s American Museum of the Moving Image, which opened its new building in September, is holding its first dinner and public film program recognizing a movie personality. The museum will salute actor-director Sidney Poitier with a tribute next Tuesday at the Waldorf-Astoria, followed by a two-week film retrospective entitled, “The Defiant One: The Films of Sidney Poitier,” from March 3-17 at the museum. Poitier will discuss his career during a kickoff appearance at the museum March 1.
