William L. Strong, 69, who retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio, in 1978 as chief financial officer and executive vice president. A career executive who had held top positions with companies across the country, including Packard Bell Electronics, Allis-Chalmers Co. and Continental Can Co., he served on many boards of directors in retirement, including Lorimar, USLife and Transatlantic Fund. In La Jolla on Feb. 10 of leukemia.
