How the Theater Owners Voted

Following are the results of a poll of 125 motion picture theater owners, who filled out Oscar ballots Wednesday at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas. They were asked to vote for the nominees they think will win, not the films or individuals they hope will win.
Best Picture: 1. “Rain Man,” (113 votes); 2. “Mississippi Burning,” (14); 3. “Accidental Tourist,” (4); 4. “Dangerous Liasons,” (3); 5. “Working Girl” (1).
Best Director: 1. Barry Levinson, “Rain Man,” (88); 2. Alan Parker, “Mississippi Burning,” (10); 3. Martin Scorsese, “The Last Temptation of Christ,” (9); 4. Mike Nichols, “Working Girl” (9); 5. Charles Crichton, “A Fish Called Wanda,” (0).
Best Actor: Dustin Hoffman, “Rain Man,” (119); 2. Gene Hackman, “Mississippi Burning,” (8); 3. Tom Hanks, “Big,” (7); 3. Edward James Olmos, “Stand and Deliver,” (4); 5. Max von Sydow, “Pele the Conqueror,” (0).
Best Actress: Sigourney Weaver, “Gorillas in the Mist,” (46); 2. Melanie Griffith, “Working Girl,” (32); 3. Glenn Close, “Dangerous Liaisons,” (26); 4. Jodie Foster, “The Accused,” (19); 5. Meryl Streep, “A Cry in the Dark,” (8).
