DELAND, Fla. — A University of Texas-San Antonio basketball player was charged with attempted murder early today after his arrest for allegedly beating and trying to strangle a female hotel employee, police said.
Keith Horne, 19, was taken into custody in the bathroom of a hotel where the team was staying and booked into Volusia County Jail under $10,000 bond, Lt. Steve Edwards said.
“Two other people had heard the commotion in the bathroom and entered and found the defendant still choking the victim on the floor of the ladies’ room, and they held him until police could arrive to make the arrest,” said Edwards.
The woman was not immediately identified. Police would furnish no further details.
The team, which defeated Stetson in DeLand 95-88 in double overtime Thursday night, departed for a game in Statesboro, Ga., leaving Horne behind, said the police spokesman.
Horne, a freshman at the Texas school, is a reserve guard.
