UNIONDALE, N.Y. — The New York Islanders traded veteran defenseman Tomas Jonsson to the Edmonton Oilers today for future consideration.
Jonsson, a 28-year-old Swede, was in his eighth season with the Islanders. He had 9 goals and 23 assists in 53 games.
Jonsson, the Islanders’ No. 2 draft pick in 1979, was a member of their Stanley Cup championship teams in 1982 and 1983. He ranks third among defensemen on the Islanders’ all-time scoring list with 333 points, trailing only Denis Potvin and Stefan Persson.
