Van Nuys Wheel Maker Plans Plant in Kansas

Superior Industries International, a Van Nuys-based producer of wheels for major U.S. auto makers, announced plans to build a $50-million aluminum-wheel manufacturing plant in Pittsburg, Kan.
The proposed plant, Superior’s fifth such production facility, would measure 350,000 square feet and be built on 56 acres. Construction is scheduled to start this summer, with production to begin early next year. The plant would have the capacity to make 2 million wheels a year.
Superior said it chose Pittsburg because of its proximity to auto assembly plants and because of the positive reaction of residents who “encouraged us to locate in their community.” Pittsburg is near the Kansas-Missouri border.
