More than 5,000 people, most of them men and many of them homeless Vietnam War veterans, were fed turkey or beef dinners Sunday at the Third Annual Homeless Heroes Feast sponsored bythe Vietnam Veterans Aid Foundation.
The event at Patriotic Hall, on the edge of downtown Los Angeles, was marked by the award of $80,000, raised from private sources by the organization, to 10 Vietnam veterans’ organizations from throughout the country.
Celebrities, including former pro football player-turned-actor Lyle Alzado, actress Sally Struthers, actor Jeffrey Fahey and comedian Carmine Caridi, participated in the program honoring Vietnam veterans down on their luck, said a spokeswoman for the feast, Laine Medina.
