Local News in Brief : Returning Sheep Herd Closes Freeway Ramps
- Share via
Sheep returning from a search for greener pastures prompted the brief closure of the Los Virgenes Road on- and off-ramps to the Ventura Freeway on Sunday morning, officials said.
California Highway Patrol officers diverted traffic beginning at 6:53 a.m. as between 500 and 1,000 sheep crossed an overpass at Las Virgenes Road to get to the south side of the freeway. The freeway ramps were reopened about an hour later and the sheep continued their journey to better grazing.
Sunday was the second time since January that the freeway ramps at Las Virgenes Road had been closed so that sheep could cross.
