THE PREPS : Soccer Roundup : Newport Harbor Boys Beat Saddleback, Earn Playoff Spot

David Pattison and Billy Castanha each scored a goal Thursday to lead the Newport Harbor High School boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Saddleback.

With the victory, the Sailors (4-4-2 in league play) clinched third place in the Sea View League and a Southern Section playoff spot.

Hernan Desantos scored for Saddleback (6-2-2), the league champion.

Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 2--The Sea Kings, victorious at home, finished second in the Sea View League.

In Empire League girls’ soccer:

Los Alamitos 3, El Dorado 1--Karen Kolodziej, Erin Ryan and Julie Harris scored second-half goals for the Griffins (15-6-2, 6-3-1) at Los Alamitos.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 6, Rancho Alamitos 0--Krista Darin scored three goals, Tracy VanHerk two and Missy Gyde one for host Kennedy (10-9-1, 6-4).

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 12, Saddleback 1--Dawn Baird, Amy Ingold and Susie Kramp scored two goals each for visiting Newport Harbor. Jill Wood, Julie Thomas, Ashley Aragona, Lorena Valdivia, Annie Brown and Carla Hoffman scored a goal for Newport Harbor (4-5-1 in league play). Amber Smith scored for Saddleback.

University 2, Estancia 2--Jane Sorenson and Stacy McGinley scored for visiting University, and Kekei Oliver and Shannon Hale scored for Estancia.
