An 85-year old woman died Friday when she backed her Jaguar out of its garage at her Brentwood home and somehow plunged into the back yard swimming pool, police said.
Police said they were not sure whether she died from drowning or from injuries suffered in the accident in the 100 block of North Bristol Avenue. The woman’s identity was not released pending notification of relatives.
Los Angeles Police Officer John Lopata, who was first on the scene, found the woman trapped in the auto, dived into the pool, forced the door open and pulled her out of the pool. But arriving paramedics pronounced her dead.
“She may have put her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake,” Police Sgt. Rick Walker said.
