A businessman and close associate of Panamanian strongman Manuel A. Noriega has been named the candidate of Gen. Noriega’s governing coalition for presidential elections scheduled May 7. The candidacy of Carlos Duque was announced at a Panama City news conference given by the Nationalist Liberation Coalition, an alliance of pro-Noriega parties. In May’s election, the first since 1985, Duque will run against attorney Guillermo Endara, the candidate of the opposition Civic Democratic Alliance.
