Schering-Plough Corp. said earnings for 1988 rose 23% to $389.8 million on sales of $2.97 billion, up 10% from 1987. Officials of the Madison, N.J., pharmaceuticals firm attributed the higher sales and earnings to generally strong results by each of the company’s business units, particularly noting the performance of the international pharmaceutical business, whose sales were up more than 20%. Fourth-quarter profit rose 24% to $92.9 million on sales of $739.9 million, up 12% from the year-ago period.
