“A Raisin in the Sun,” Lorraine Hansberry’s story of a black family’s conflicts and its quest for a better life, is mounted in a new production kicking off the eighth season of public television’s “American Playhouse.”
With a cast headed by Esther Rolle and Danny Glover, the three-hour drama airs Wednesday from 8-11 p.m. on Channels 28 and 15.
Set on Chicago’s South Side during the 1950s, this small-screen revival will restore scenes and passages cut from the original play and 1961 movie.
“Raisin in the Sun” is one of several productions PBS will present during February in celebration of Black History Month.
