Gov. George Deukmejian has elevated Van Nuys Municipal Judge Michael J. Farrell to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, a spokesman for the governor said Tuesday.
Farrell, 50, of Northridge, has presided over a misdemeanor trial court in Van Nuys since his appointment to the Municipal Court by the governor in 1986.
Farrell replaces Christian E. Markey Jr., who is retiring. Farrell will be up for election in 1990.
Farrell said he plans to take his oath of office this weekend from his brother, San Fernando Superior Court Judge John P. Farrell.
Farrell was one of two appointments the governor made to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. The other was Irving S. Feffer, 57, a private attorney from Beverly Hills.
