Vince Workman, Ohio State’s starting tailback and the team’s leading rusher the last 2 seasons, was declared ineligible for the rest of his senior season because he signed with an agent.
Athletic Director Jim Jones announced the action, saying Workman had clearly violated collegiate rules.
After testifying before a grand jury investigating the dealings of sports agents in college athletics, Workman, a senior co-captain, told Jones and Coach John Cooper he had accepted $1,000 from San Francisco agent David Lueddekke at a meeting in Columbus, Ohio, in February 1987.
