Local News in Brief : Secret Service Gets New Bureau Chief

Richard Griffin has been named head of the Secret Service’s Los Angeles office. Griffin, 38, has worked for the Secret Service since 1971, and was one of former President Jimmy Carter’s guards. He replaces Gary Jenkins.
The Los Angeles office, which oversees bureaus in Southern California and Nevada, including more than 130 agents, is the third largest of the Secret Service’s field offices.
The Secret Service, an arm of the Treasury Department, investigates banking and credit card crime and guards the President and other officials.
