SEOUL — Hundreds of radical students, shouting slogans against the South Korean government and the Olympic Games, hurled firebombs and rocks at riot police in Seoul on Friday.
The battle began at Yonsei University when police stopped about 600 students from marching off the campus to protest the arrest Thursday of the head of the student association. He was charged with leading an anti-Olympic campaign.
Students attacked about 1,000 riot police, who responded by firing tear-gas grenades and flinging rocks back at the protesters.
