A power failure Friday at a sewage pump in La Jolla caused the release of about 900 gallons of sewage into the Pacific, the county health department said.
The power failure, which occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. at Pump Station 24 at 298 Coast Blvd., caused the sewage to spill directly into the ocean, just north of Casa Beach, said Lyn Wallace, a spokesman for the Department of Health Services.
Even though the sewage was expected to dissipate, Wallace said, warning signs have been posted for 24 hours 100 feet north and south of the pump station.
