Hobos

To paraphrase Mark Twain, the demise of the All-American hobo may be exaggerated (Part 1, Aug. 30).
In addition to the annual Britt Convention, there are two organizations whose goal is to preserve this slice of American history: The Hobo Foundation of Concord, Vermont, and the National Hobo Association of Los Angeles, which published the Hobo Times newsletter.
The hobo, both old-timer and new, will continue to be a survivalist with instincts to help prevent them becoming a vanishing species. Their helpful and sharing nature can provide a lesson in good will for us all.
