Doors and windows were rattled in five states--Indiana, Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio--by a moderate earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale and centered in Kentucky’s Appalachian country. There were no reports of serious damage or injuries from the 10:30 p.m. EDT temblor. “It’s a good healthy one . . . that should have been widely felt,” said Ron Street, a seismologist at the University of Kentucky. Cincinnati police said hundreds of residents jammed their telephone switchboards reporting the quake.
