West German unemployment stood at 8.5% of the work force in August, compared to 8.6% both in July and a year ago, the Federal Labor Office has reported. Federal Labor Office President Heinrich Franke said at a news conference that the summer holiday period and a declining number of young people seeking work were the main reasons for fall.
