Authorities investigating Tawana Brawley’s claim that she was raped by six white men will get a chance in a “few days” to subpoena the black teen-ager and arrest her mother for failing to cooperate with the probe, a family adviser said. But the adviser, the Rev. Al Sharpton, declined to specify when the Brawleys would return to New York state from what he described as a vacation. Brawley’s mother, Glenda, faces a 30-day jail sentence for contempt for refusing to testify before a Poughkeepsie grand jury investigating the charges. The panel also has reportedly voted to subpoena Tawana. Sharpton and Brawley’s lawyers have charged there is an official cover-up.
