** “Terence Trent D’Arby: Introducing the Hardline--Live.”

CMV. $19.98. 65 min.

D’Arby, an American who lives in London, is one of the most talented and charismatic pop arrivals in years. He combines a sweet soul voice reminiscent of Sam Cooke with a bold, somewhat enigmatic Prince-like presence. So you would think he would make sure that any video carrying his name would reflect those dramatic qualities. Surprisingly, this disappointing package consists of mostly routine concert footage (from a single show in Munich), brief, annoyingly affected interview clips and corny backstage glimpses. It’s average by pop video docu-portrait standards, but D’Arby is an artist who promised he would never settle for the average. This time he did.
