Redskins Admit Raiders Made Offer for Schroeder, but It Wasn’t Enough

The Raider-Schroeder trade talks may be dead but they are finally on the record.
General Manager Bobby Beathard of the Washington Redskins said Wednesday that the Raiders made an offer for backup quarterback Jay Schroeder, but that it was just like the Raiders’ offer last year for Doug Williams--too low.
“They know what it will take,” Beathard said of the Raiders. “Frankly, I don’t think they’ll do it.
“Last year, they only offered to switch second-round picks, or give us a fourth-round pick (for Williams). There was no offer of a second-round pick.
“Just reverse the situation. It’s the same thing they were offering for Williams.
“We’re not going to trade Jay just because he’s unhappy. There hasn’t been an offer close to satisfying what Jay is worth.”
However, another source said the Raiders remain interested in Schroeder and have offered more--say, Tim Brown and a No. 2 pick--but have been turned down.
