Frost warnings in the mountains of Vermont and New York, snow on New Hampshire’s 6,288-foot high Mt. Washington, and a dip in Lake Erie’s temperature heralded the nation’s return to somewhat normal weather after weeks of record-breaking heat that caused scores of deaths. Record lows were set or tied at Boise, Ida., at 45 degrees; Harrisburg, Pa., at 50; Syracuse, N.Y., at 43; and Youngstown, Ohio, at 39.
