A federal grand jury in Las Vegas has indicted the operators of a Los Angeles company on charges that they bilked 12 people out of thousands of dollars in a nationwide truck giveaway scam.
Defendants named in the indictment are Craig Jeffries and Walter Scott, operators of Pacific Premiums. The indictment charged wire fraud.
According to the indictment, people throughout the country received telephone calls notifying them that they had won a new truck. They were told that they had to pay taxes on the truck before the vehicle could be shipped.
The indictment charged that much of the money was sent to an address in Las Vegas, represented as the bonding company assigned to collect the fees ranging from $375 to $750.
